Tamworth Castle

Paranormal Investigation

2003

Baseline Readings 24-06-2003

On Tuesday 24th June two members of the investigation team visited Tamworth Castle to obtain the first set of baseline readings prior to the investigation. This involved the scanning of all the areas open to the public using an EMF meter.

The first high reading was found in the Norman Exhibition room located on the ground floor. On the north side there is white trunking running vertically down the wall, which we can quite safely presume contains electrical wiring causing a natural electromagnetic field.

The second and more significant reading is in the chapel, which is located on the second floor above the Warders Lodge. Within this room there is a glass-fronted recess containing a tailor’s dummy adorned in priest’s robes. The EMF detector registers a moderate reading within two to three feet of the recess whilst held at waist height. If the meter is slowly lowered the reading increase proportionately.

Throughout the rest of the Castle no other EMF readings were detected.

Whilst at the Castle the team accidentally stumbled on a natural occurrence, which could easily affect the results of the forthcoming investigation. It was noted that whilst in the Gents toilets, located next to the Norman Exhibition room, a knocking noise could be heard. This would stop when the cold water tap was turned on and start again once the tap was turned off. There is a possibility that the knocking sound may resonate throughout the whole of the north wing and may be picked up by the various recording equipment use during the investigation.
