Tamworth Castle

Paranormal Investigation

2003

Ian Doherty's Report
as reported on www.spiritart.co.uk

After brining all of the equipment into the staff room, we were given a health and safety brief by the local expert from the castle and were then shown around the castle, which took approximately three hours. After deciding upon which rooms had the most activity the equipment was set up at various locations throughout the castle and were monitored through the TV and checked on during the night and if necessary reset.

Location:        Great Hall The first ghost here was that of a man “Brian Blessed, from Black adder the first” I placed this man to be around the time of Richard the third “a horse a kingdom for a horse” he was a large man, made even larger due to him wearing armour, no helmet, he had dark hair and beard and radiated a commanding presence. The sword he carried was a heavy sword, with no cross guard, and thinned quite sharply at the point.
Great Hall

The second ghost was that of a very fat man, he had an extremely wide girth, around 50 inches at my guess, he was slumped into a large chair. He wore a wig and had a powered face, he had a wide cummerbund around his waist and was blue in colour which matched his leggings, he wore a white shirt complete with ruffles down the front and at the cuffs. (I felt Georgian with this man, as well as thinking him to have been connected to royalty in some way)

Great Hall

The third ghost was that of a priest, who was of middle age, he had straight short blonde hair, and wore cream white robes, with a tabard over the top which had a golden cross adorned onto it. He was pacing about between two points and seemed anxious about something.

Location:

Stair case, right hand corner of great hall           The ghosts here were of two nuns, one was young and quite pretty, the other being middle aged. The younger nun was of a tall thin appearance, whilst the middle aged nun was more rotund and short. They both wore the same dress, being a cream white habit, with a blue under lining. (I would have linked these two nuns to the priest in the great hall, as they all wore the same colours) the nuns carried rosemary beads, black in colour and very ornate in appearance.

Location:

Kings room The gentleman that I had described in the great hall, the large man with a royal connection. I felt very strongly that he had taking his passing in this very room, and as such a video camera and lap top were set up at this location. The laptop had picked up some anomalies during the night (I will detail them here as and when I hear of them)

Location:

Haunted staircase  There was a man here, dressed in a heavy linen night dress, he had short dark hair in the style of a monk, though he did not have any bald patch at the centre of his head, and his hair was curled up a little at the back of his head. He seemed in quite a rush to get away from something. There was also the presence of children here, as laughter could be sensed, as well as movement.

Location:

Haunted room This room is where most of the activity took place during the night (this will he detailed later) there was the spirit of a woman; she had an elderly appearance, and looked like the old woman in the bedroom from “Allo Allo”.  She will be detailed later

Location:

Victorian tea room This room provided me with an excellent opportunity to tap into a variety of residual energies. The first ghost in this room was that of a middle aged well to do lady, she looked similar to the woman from “Harry Potter, the teacher who appeared as a cat” she was dressed in white, silk and linen of the Victorian period. I sensed she was a strict person and would have had to have had her own way in things.
Victorian tea room The second ghost here was that of a man, dressed in a dark black suit, white shirt (no tie) and wore a tall black hat, again from the Victorian period and I felt was the older husband to the lady mentioned above.
Victorian tea room There were brief appearances of a young man, dressed similarly to characters from “David Copperfield” two children and a young maid.

There were three cameras set up in this room, and were monitored on the small portable TV that had brought along

Location:

Chapel There was the ghost of a tall man, finely dressed; he had a bald head and was similar in appearance to “Victor Meldrume” having the same height and build, and the long face and features.

Location:

Courtyard There was a tall man dressed in leather, and looked as though he would have looked after the horses for the castle. He was walking along side a tall horse and this is a good example of how ghosts interact with their time frame only, for the horse was tall, yet I could easily reach the top of the horses head, though I am only 5ft 2 tall. This demonstrates that at the time of these energies that the ground in that area would have been a lot lower. The man appeared to have been walking from a part of the courtyard that now has a building there, the building was built in the 17th century and was not there before this time, therefore we can ascertain that the man in question would have lived before then.

Location:

Shop There was a brief appearance of a young woman, she was dressed in a large flowing dress, like that of a maid of the time, and had long brown hair tied into a pony tail at the back of her head. The direction in which she was walking would have taken her through the adjoining wall and into the courtyard. It is interesting to know that the room through which she would have walked would have also not been there before the 17th century.

Location:

Walk about  I came across the ghost of a soldier, he was dressed in studded leather armour, the studs were about the size of a five pence piece, they appeared to be brass in the middle and iron on the outside (like a stud held in place with a washer) he wore a flat iron circular hat (like the soldiers from Brave heart) and had a connection to Nottingham. He carried a long bow, and wore trews.

The Haunted room

A lot of activity happened here, and was captured to a certain extent by infra red video camera and digital cameras.
Firstly I felt the presence of a spirit and thus moved into the area to locate & communicate with this spirit. I transpired to be that of an elderly woman, whose appearance was similar to that of the woman seen in “Allo Allo” Her name was Lilly & she appeared to be quite angry at being forgotten about by her family within the castle and this has given rise to people feeling nervous about entering the room.
At about 4am we turned out all of the lights, turned off all cameras and waited to see what would happen? Lilly did not disappoint, she interacted with several members of the team, touching their hands or faces as she moved around them. There were some photographs taken and orbs were present on a majority of these photographs. A little while later, two children joined Lilly in the room, they were also spirit, one was a girl of around 8 years old and called Jennifer, the other a boy of around 5 years old called Adam. These two children also interacted with the members of the team touching their hands & on some occasions pulling their hair. Adam moved around one member of the team & caused the temperature to drop very quickly which in turn set off one of the thermometer devices, resulting in a flashing red light, most of the team members could feel this temperature change.
A couple of the team members were on the stairs outside the room, and had video cameras running, and caught an orb of light moving down the stairs
I am currently waiting for feedback from the team, as to what they have discovered as well as to what evidence I had brought through. I will be placing it here when I get any information.
As & when I complete further investigations, I will replace the above information with the new material, & will provide a link to the above information via a word document.
